On Thursday, 26th November there was a Lantern festival in Derby’s famous Arboretum (the Arboretum was the first public park in the UK)
The lantern festival was the the focus for several week’s hard work by Spiral Arts in collaboration with other groups and St James’ Primary School. Different shapes of lantern were created by the children and were exhibited in the Orangery at the Arboretum prior to a procession around the park in the early evening of Thursday 26th November.
The Rotary Club of Derby is working alongside Spiral Arts, the city council park managers and Sustrans to try to engage local residents and businesses in developing the Arboretum as a community space.
After the lantern festival procession a ‘Friends of Derby Arboretum’ was formally established and a number of community events are being planned over the coming year.
